La dernière version du catalogue cat.InDoRES a permis la mutualisation des référentiels utilisés par les Zones Ateliers et les Observatoires Hommes-Milieux et offre surtout un catalogue unique, avec des entrées spécifiques à chacun des réseaux. Elle regroupe aujourd’hui plus de 2 500 fiches de métadonnées, faisant gagner en visibilité les projets portés dans le domaine de l’écologie.

So-called “big-data” approaches have revolutionized fields of research from astronomy to genetics. Such approaches are not limited to fields that seem inherently technical, because the combination of rapid data collection and advanced analytical techniques could be applied to almost any scientific question. Nathan et al. reviewed how these modern approaches are being applied to the very old field of animal tracking and monitoring. Large-scale data collection can reveal details about how animals use their environment and interact with each other that were impossible to explore previously.

Data on tropical forests are in high demand. But ground forest measurements are hard to sustain and the people who make them are extremely disadvantaged compared to those who use them. We propose a new approach to forest data that focuses on the needs of data originators, and ensures users and funders contribute properly.
