La Commission pour la conservation de la faune et la flore marines de l'Antarctique, qui regroupe 26 pays et l'UE, a échoué à trouver un accord pour instaurer de nouvelles aires marines protégées, malgré la fonte accélérée des glaces autour du pôle Sud, ont annoncé vendredi des ONG de défense de l'environnement. LIFE projects that work in marine areas or wetlands often focus on these particular island habitats, and address urgent conservation needs as well as long term financing for protected areas. Through their work, they help implement the most important EU nature, environment and climate legislation including the Habitats directive and the Birds directive.

This round of ERC Advanced Grant funding will help 253 senior researchers carry out their innovative projects. We selected five examples to examine in detail, from Spain, France, Finland, Slovenia and Germany. They deal with biodiversity on islands, the modelling of adaptive and evolutionary biology for single cells, as well as quantum computers made of superconducting electric circuits. In addition, the selected projects tackle questions such as what the Cosmic Dawn looked like, and how language sounds change over time.
