Les herbiers marins ont une fonction vitale : ils stabilisent les fonds marins, apportent un soutien à l'écosystème en fournissant de la nourriture, des abris et des zones de reproduction essentielles pour les espèces de poissons commerciales et récréatives, améliorent la qualité de l'eau et empêchent l'érosion côtière.

The IUCN Restoration Barometer is the only functioning platform already being used by governments to track the progress of their restoration targets. It is currently used by 22 governments, endorsed by over 50, and was previously used by additional countries including the United States and Brazil. Data on over a dozen more countries will be uploaded in early 2023 and it is also being piloted for use by 34 companies.

This report analyses the current state of knowledge regarding the role of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in climate change mitigation. It shows that in order to keep temperature rising to 1.5 degrees and achieve net zero by 2050 a significant contribution from NbS is both necessary and possible, provided the necessary finance is made available. It assesses the role that carbon offsets can play in the overall finance package.

For 50 years, the IUCN Commissions, Secretariat, Members such as BirdLife International and partners such as UNEP-WCMC have been mobilising biodiversity and conservation knowledge products, which are fundamentally important for tracking progress towards 10 of the 20 Aichi Targets, and should similarly become so for seven of the emerging 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Nairobi, Kenya (IUCN) – The Global Species Action Plan, launched at the Convention on Biological Diversity’s 25th meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, sets out a transformative path for countries to implement actions to mitigate species decline. 

Co-developed by ILO, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), this report is the first in a joint global biennial report series that aims to fill knowledge and advocacy gaps on how transitions to a green economy will affect the world of work, and of the role that NbS can and do play in creating employment, especially for the poorest and most vulnerable people.
