A new tool has been launched by the CITES Secretariat to monitor and track the trade in some of our most threatened species of animals and plants.

L’indice de qualité écologique (IQE) caractérise la biodiversité à l’échelle globale d’un site. Il a été conçu pour évaluer des sites aménagés, accueillant du public, à vocation commerciale, industrielle ou de loisirs. Applicables partout en France métropolitaine, l'IQE - et sa déclinaison l'IPE - évaluent les enjeux patrimoniaux, la fonctionnalité écologique et la diversité des espèces et des habitats.

Freshwater fish have been widely introduced worldwide, and freshwater ecosystems are among the most affected by biological invasions. Consequently, freshwater fish invasions are one of the most documented invasions among animal taxa, with much information available about invasive species, their characteristics, invaded regions, invasion pathways, impacts, and management. While existing reviews address specific aspects of freshwater fish invasions, there is still a gaping lack of comprehensive assessments of freshwater fish invasions that simultaneously address pivotal and connected elements of the invasion process. Here, we provide a holistic review, together with quantitative assessments, divided into four major parts: (1) introduction pathways; (2) characteristics of non-native species and invaded ecosystems to explain successful invasion processes; (3) invasion impacts and their mechanisms; and (4) management.
