This book provides an assessment of the effectiveness of 2526 conservation interventions based on summarized scientific evidence. The 2021 edition containssubstantial new material on bat conservation, terrestrial mammal conservation and marine and freshwater mammals, thus completing the evidence for all mammal species categories. Other chapters cover practical global conservation of primates, amphibians, bats, birds, forests, peatlands, subtidal benthic invertebrates, shrublands and heathlands, as well as the conservation of European farmland biodiversity and some aspects of enhancing natural pest control, enhancing soil fertility, management of captive animals and control of freshwater invasive species.

Malgré l’importance des papillons diurnes, dans la chaîne alimentaire et pour la pollinisation, ces derniers font l’objet de nombreuses menaces. Fort de ce constat, un plan national d’actions en faveur des papillons de jour a été mis en place par le Ministère de la Transition Ecologique en 2019. Une déclinaison régionale en Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur a été développée par la DREAL PACA et le CEN PACA en 2021. L’objectif de ce plan régional d’actions est de définir et de mettre en œuvre des actions coordonnées à court, moyen et long terme pour la conservation des papillons de jour, jugées comme les plus « patrimoniaux » à l’échelle de la région, et de leurs habitats.

Efforts to stem the decline of monarch butterflies took a giant leap forward today with the completion of a historic agreement between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the University of Illinois-Chicago. The agreement encourages transportation and energy partners to participate in monarch conservation by providing and maintaining habitat on potentially millions of acres of rights-of-way and associated lands.

The big butterfly count is a nationwide survey aimed at helping us assess the health of our environment. It was launched in 2010 and has rapidly become the world's biggest survey of butterflies. Over 36,000 people took part in 2016, counting almost 400,000 individual butterflies and day-flying moths across the UK (see the 2016 results). big butterfly count 2017 will take place from Friday 14 July to Sunday 6 August.
