Si l'on achetait uniquement du poisson pêché localement sur nos côtes, les rayons seraient vides à partir du lundi 2 mai. En dépit de son importante façade maritime, la France importe les deux tiers de ses produits de la mer. Transposé sur une année, effectivement, cette proportion fait que nous avons déjà avalé tout ce qui a été pêché sur nos côtes : c’est ce que nous rappelle l'Aquaculture tewardship council (ASC), une ONG internationale qui vise à promouvoir une aquaculture durable.

Les Français consomment en effet 33,5 kg de poisson et crustacés chaque année.

Zoonotic viruses infect people directly most often when they handle live primates, bats, and other wildlife (or their meat) or indirectly from farm animals such as chickens and pigs. The risks are higher than ever (2, 3) as increasingly intimate associations between humans and wildlife disease reservoirs accelerate the potential for viruses to spread globally. Here, we assess the cost of monitoring and preventing disease spillover driven by the unprecedented loss and fragmentation of tropical forests and by the burgeoning wildlife trade.

Deforestation, a significant threat to biodiversity, is accelerated by global demand for commodities. Although prior literature has linked deforestation to global supply chains, here we provide a fine-scale representation of spatial patterns of deforestation associated with international trade. Using remote sensing data and a multi-region input–output model, we quantify and map the spatiotemporal changes in global deforestation footprints over 15 years (2001–2015) at a 30-m resolution.
