Annual Reviews Special Article Collection : Ecology and Extinction

Annual Reviews Special Article Collection : Ecology and Extinction | Biodiversité | Scoop.it

More than 23,900 natural species are currently threatened with extinction according to the Red List of Threatened Species published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. What makes certain species more prone to extinction than others? Understanding the answers to this important question is the key to successful conservation efforts. The following articles, written by invited experts, explore several factors that affect global ecology and extinction risk.

Building spaces of interactions between researchers and managers: Case studies with wildlife monitoring and conservation in France

Building spaces of interactions between researchers and managers: Case studies with wildlife monitoring and conservation in France | Biodiversité | Scoop.it

We illustrate how to build spaces of interactions between research and management. We present two case studies we conducted through a long-term collaboration between the Centre for Functional and Evolutionary Ecology (CEFE; academic/science—a public research laboratory mostly focused on basic ecological questions) and the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB; non-academic/management—a public institute dedicated to biodiversity protection and restauration, under administrative supervision of ecology and agriculture ministries) with biodiversity monitoring in national parks and management of large carnivores in France.

What Works in Conservation 2021

What Works in Conservation 2021 | Biodiversité | Scoop.it
This book provides an assessment of the effectiveness of 2526 conservation interventions based on summarized scientific evidence. The 2021 edition containssubstantial new material on bat conservation, terrestrial mammal conservation and marine and freshwater mammals, thus completing the evidence for all mammal species categories. Other chapters cover practical global conservation of primates, amphibians, bats, birds, forests, peatlands, subtidal benthic invertebrates, shrublands and heathlands, as well as the conservation of European farmland biodiversity and some aspects of enhancing natural pest control, enhancing soil fertility, management of captive animals and control of freshwater invasive species.

Annotated checklist of the Hemiptera Heteroptera of the Site of Community Importance and Special Area of Conservation “Alpi Marittime” (NW Italy)

Annotated checklist of the Hemiptera Heteroptera of the Site of Community Importance and Special Area of Conservation “Alpi Marittime” (NW Italy) | Biodiversité | Scoop.it

We provide the first annotated checklist of the Heteroptera (Insecta: Hemiptera) of the Site of Community Importance and Special Area of Conservation “Alpi Marittime” (IT1160056), based on literature records and unpublished material collected between 2012-2015 within two European projects in which the Alpi Marittime Nature Park was involved. The literature review provided a list of 62 species, recorded for the study area between 1884 and 1990, scattered in 14 papers. The new data here provided raise the total number of species occurring in this region to 208, grouped in 25 families and 135 genera.
