We will take a closer look at some of the issues of addressing plastic pollution in Marine Protected Areas, through a number of case studies across Europe. The session will bring together EU policy makers, European MPA managers, representatives from the private sector, and other stakeholders, to discuss the challenges and potential ways forward.

Les chiffres font froid dans le dos. L’Union européenne génère chaque année près 58 millions de tonnes de plastique. Selon une étude du Forum économique mondial et de la fondation Ellen McArthur, à ce rythme d’ici trente ans, il y aura plus de plastiques que de poissons dans les océans. 2050 est à nos portes, et la diminution des polluants plastiques ne peut plus attendre. C’est à partir de ce constat qu’a été lancé le projet européen Preventing Plastique Pollution, qui réunit 18 organisations de France et d’Angleterre pour comprendre la pollution plastique, mieux la maîtriser et à terme la réduire.
