Mégafaune marine et activités humaines - CAMAC, un projet de coopération caribéenne.

Mégafaune marine et activités humaines - CAMAC, un projet de coopération caribéenne.  | Biodiversité | Scoop.it

COVID, climate and economic recovery are a family affair

COVID, climate and economic recovery are a family affair | Biodiversité | Scoop.it

Like many other families, in spring 2020 the Forsters found themselves locked down. With traffic disappearing and planes grounded, news and social media sites were seeking the upsides of lockdown – cleaner air, lower emissions. Could there be some unexpected benefits for climate change?

DocBiodiv's insight:
via @PriestleyCentre : "New research in @NatureClimate - led by Prof @PiersForster and his daughter Harriet, who's just finished secondary school. As Harriet says: "Our paper shows that the actual effect of lockdown on the climate is small." It's what we do next that counts."

Did the Drop in COVID-Related Emissions Affect the Climate?

Did the Drop in COVID-Related Emissions Affect the Climate? | Biodiversité | Scoop.it
Global emissions dropped markedly in 2020, due in large part to lockdowns that slowed economic and social activity, but the climate likely won’t be noticeably affected.

Increasing impacts of land use on biodiversity and carbon sequestration driven by population and economic growth

Increasing impacts of land use on biodiversity and carbon sequestration driven by population and economic growth | Biodiversité | Scoop.it
Combining biophysical and economic models, the authors show that the impacts of land use on bird biodiversity and carbon sequestration have increased over the years 2000–2011, with cattle farming being a major driver of biodiversity loss.
