Global emissions dropped markedly in 2020, due in large part to lockdowns that slowed economic and social activity, but the climate likely won’t be noticeably affected.

Une étude publiée ce mardi dans « Nature Climate Change » donne le bilan précis du confinement. Du 1 er janvier au 30 avril, la mise à l'arrêt de l'économie a entraîné une baisse de 8,6 % des émissions mondiales de CO2. La baisse est encore plus marquée en France.

Like many other families, in spring 2020 the Forsters found themselves locked down. With traffic disappearing and planes grounded, news and social media sites were seeking the upsides of lockdown – cleaner air, lower emissions. Could there be some unexpected benefits for climate change?
