Laut Umweltprogramm der Vereinten Nationen (UNEP) trägt der Tourismus rund 10 % zum globalen Bruttoinlandsprodukt bei, 7 % aller globalen Exporte gehen auf das Konto der Reisewirtschaft und über 10 % aller Jobs werden der Touristik zugeordnet. Die Branche ist groß - und hat aber auch spürbaren Einfluss auf die Umwelt. Das hat die ITB Berlin in Kooperation mit Statista ermittelt.
