Microsoft is launching a site to help teachers master 'Minecraft'

Microsoft is launching a site to help teachers master 'Minecraft' | Pédagogie & Technologie | Scoop.it

Minecraft has proven to be an invaluable tool for educators and students. Not only is the game popular with children and adults, but its open, customisable nature means it can be used for all sorts of different purposes. Like learning to code, understanding Britain's geography and reimagining modern art. Microsoft clearly knows this, so it's launching a new portal where teachers can discuss the game and share classroom resources. The full site isn't live just yet, but the trailer below gives you an idea of what Microsoft and Mojang are aiming for. After this and its Hololens demonstration, it's clear the company sees its $2.5 billion acquisition as more than just a game with a guaranteed smash-hit sequel.

Minecraft : un monument perdu pour le domaine public ?

Minecraft : un monument perdu pour le domaine public ? | Pédagogie & Technologie | Scoop.it

Open Letter to LEGO: LEGO Universe v. Minecraft Lessons Learned

Open Letter to LEGO: LEGO Universe v. Minecraft Lessons Learned | Pédagogie & Technologie | Scoop.it

I was gobsmacked when I read the article "LEGO Minecraft is Coming" posted on Wired. Why would LEGO create a model of the game that economically pwnd LEGO Universe, its first MMOG? Thinking more about it, the irony of this odd business decision actually helped to illuminate something that has been perplexing me for past year. What is it, exactly, that makes Minecraft so massively successful?

Minecraft Education Edition comes to classrooms

Minecraft Education Edition comes to classrooms | Pédagogie & Technologie | Scoop.it
Teachers are getting the building blocks they need to lead lessons in Minecraft worlds as Microsoft launches Minecraft Education Edition.

Sometimes the push to bring tech into the classroom seems like a misguided distraction from the Three Rs, but I appreciate that anything which helps engage children is generally a good thing. Just like a box of wooden building blocks, Minecraft in the classroom can be a distracting toy or a powerful learning tool depending on how you use it.

The secret of Minecraft - Medium.com

The secret of Minecraft - Medium.com | Pédagogie & Technologie | Scoop.it

"It’s almost inevitable: I encounter Minecraft somewhere online—it’s easy to do, because there’s a lot of Minecraft out there—and I end up convinced I’m doing the wrong thing with my life. Let me explain. Briefly, for the uninitiated: Minecraft is a video game, first released in 2009 as a buggy prototype by a solo Swedish programmer named Markus Persson. The complete game was released in 2011, and in the years since, Minecraft has matured, expanded, and sold tens of millions of copies. Oh, and there’s a documentary. Also, T-shirts."
